Well I told you I
wanted it before the race. It is about time...It sure is going to feel good placing my name
on this thing. Like always “Some Where someone from the DRC is training when you
are not, and when you race him you will loose”, and this trophy will still belong to Me! :)

The Latest News From The DRC
Well, this year the DRC decided to do the 10K rather then the usual 5K — more mileage and DRC exposure for the money and we were feeling good……
This is our usual Festive Hat Race. The uniform of choice for this race is Custom TYR / DRC board shorts, DRC singlet, and the Red, White, and Blue — Jesters hat bells included……
We run this race as a group, joke along the way etc……then finish together……All fun and games here.
As we were doing our practice run around the track we had some strange visualization of creating a line holding hands around
the final corner of the track and wiping one of us to the finish like in roller derby.
So we did our run and had a few jokes along the way trying to all keep together, then as we
approached the track we regrouped and came onto the track all together and started planning the whip. It was decided that Wes would be the
Whippin boy and should be on the outside as we went through the turn. In the center of the turn the DRC was locked, loaded and ready to send
Wes to the finish with a little boost……they hit the final apex of that turn and Wes was launched……he took that initial whip and ran with it……in a full
sprint passing everything in his path for that 100 yard dash, there was even one guy that tried to kick it up and keep up with him, but there was no doing this……Wes
had been launched into orbit…coming in a full 15 seconds ahead of his launching pad (the other DRC boys)……
The DRC also had a little Hashers incident at this race where a couple of Hasher women came by to one—up the DRC by letting us know they were sipping the suds……
they were one ahead of us — At the time…… They had beer in their water bottles…… We let them know that we will be drinking once we leave the School Grounds and go for lunch — Knowlwoods……
Like we have always said we are not a bunch of irresponsible drunks. You can read our disclaimer if you want to get a better idea of what I am talking about. Here are the pictures from our 4th of July 10K.
Well not sure if it was Wes parking just inches away from Ed, but just enough to get the back door open for the chairs, or the fact this was a Saturday race (we usually train on Saturdays), or
the lucky penny Wes found, or maybe it was the sponsor….Coors©…., Well whatever it was……We Did It…. this was the year for the DRC - Keep it alive in 2005.
See official results.
First place in the open division with a time of 58:49. We wanted to break one hour and place. Looks like we did both….Yea….
Now This is the World Famous Mud Run! This is a challenging 10K run with hills, tire obstacles, low sand crawl, river crossings, two 5-foot walls with mud on both sides,
tunnel crawl, slippery hill climb, and the final 30-foot mud pit. View the course map here. Not your ordinary 10K… This has become the race
of the year for the DRC, a few years ago it was the Death Race, but over the last few years the MudRun has become our race of the year.
This has been a long time coming for the DRC. This is our 4th year running this race, and we have come so close each time. The last two times we took 6th and knew
we had it in us to come home with some hardware one of these times. Every year we have done this race we have had someone one the DL list, either fully
disabled / injured or at least to the point we know they will not be able to perform to their fullest. The first year Todd could not even make it and we had
HeatSheak's brother run with us, the next year HeatSheak was injured, then the next year, it was Wes that had the injury. This was the first year we had all
of the DRC on as we were training for this race……Then about two weeks prior to the race HeatSheak pulls a muscle in the calf. His plan was to lay off for
a week plus, and come into the MudRun ready to give it his all pain or no pain. He did and we did what we set out to do before the race. We would like to
thank our MudRun team captain Dave, HeatShek for his drive and dedication during the race and Todd for the team moral support, Rich and Ed for never looking back,
and Wes for the drive to catch Rich and Ed and make it all come together at the end for all of the team members. Good job DRC.
One of these years we will all be on and ready for a team PR, and when that year comes look out……It just might be next year.
Here are the Photos from the day and
Last Year's Photos
You can also check out four years of DRC Mud Run photos on our new Photos Page.
Well, we have been spending some time here getting a new site together...Hope you like it...
This site is still a work in progress site, so be patient with us. You will find quite a few links that go to our “Under Construction” page.
Wes is trying to put together a page or two a day, so keep checking back with us. We figured that a few Under Construction pages
would be better than out-dated material. Hope you enjoy the new look. Let us know what you think - Sign our Guest book, or join the
Forum pages. Also check out the new css and CF code that makes it possible to change the site colors - try it...Links
on bottom right.
Before too long this will be a fully functioning site. We are going to keep this up to date and update with photos after every race...Brea 8K in just a few weeks.
If you would like to see our old site, we have placed it all here - Our Old Site.
...Stressful parking, rush to the start, cold and windy, too much beer....
Well, we did eventually park (45 min to get into the parking lot...), and we did finally get to the start line
(1 min before gun time...), and we eventually made it to the Beer Garden...
Gun went off, two minutes later we crossed the starting line, Dave and Ed set a 7:30 pace, Wes and Todd about 10 -15
feet behind them, then Rich a touch behind that.
Quick recap....
Start line cold....First 5+ miles wind to our backs, Humid...Turn-around point face to the wind, cold, cold...Up Shoreline,
down and out...Dave K picks up the piano at mile 10.5 Todd brings it home with Wes and Ed hanging on for the final 3 mile push
home...Thanks for the support Todd...
Race is over...Wes just misses his old PR from 2003 by 40 seconds. Saw one of our fellow DRC - Deathrace team members Dave B, who decided to do this race
this year, he also pulled down a PR for himself, with something like a 1:46...
....Beer Garden...Now it is not too often when we say that there is more beer here than we can actually drink, but this was the case
this time....One wrist band = 2 beers, give or take 7 beers. Let’s just say the DRC is experienced in working the system...
The DRC would like to say thanks to Ultra (A new sponsor...?) for making the beer garden worth spending four hours in, and of course our new friends George and Wendy...
It's friends like this and times like this that keep us doing this time and again. Photos from our day.
...Talk about getting your ass off the couch....
The 2005 Pacific Shoreline Marathon and Half Marathon is upon us....
I think we do this race just to keep the DRC rolling right out of the gate. If it was not for this race we, would still be on the couch watching TV.
To top this off this race is held on one of the most TV-man days there is....The Super Bowl...Luckily for us it is over before the game starts.
